Representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan participated in the final regional seminar of the Central Asia and Caucasus Security Project (CCASP), which was held from 3 to 5 March 2026 in Tokyo, Japan.
The event was organized by the World Customs Organization with the support of the Government of Japan and was dedicated to combating the illicit cross-border trafficking of small arms and light weapons (SALW), as well as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Turkmenistan is an active participant in this project and had previously taken part in the regional seminar held in Astana (July 2025), as well as in a bilateral training held in Baku (January 2026).
During the three-day programme, representatives of customs administrations from the region — Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan — discussed the results of the training activities conducted, exchanged national experiences and familiarized themselves with advanced border and customs control practices applied by Japan Customs.
In its presentation, the delegation of Turkmenistan provided information on the modernization of the national customs system, with particular emphasis on the Control and Analytical Center, which ensures automated risk analysis and contributes to the acceleration of customs clearance procedures. The ongoing modernization of the technical infrastructure of customs posts was also highlighted, including the introduction of modern inspection and scanning systems, video surveillance systems, and radiation monitoring equipment.
