The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan continues to actively implement modern digital technologies in order to facilitate customs procedures and support trade. In this regard, in accordance with the Customs Code of
Turkmenistan, from June 1, 2024, carriers or other interested parties are required to provide preliminary electronic information about goods intended for import into Turkmenistan, as well as goods in transit.
Preliminary information can be submitted to customs authorities electronically through the “ASYCUDA World” customs information system and the TIR-EPD system of the International Road Transport Union (IRU), in accordance with the Customs Convention on the International Transport of Goods (MDP) of 14 November 1975, in Turkmen, Russian, and/or English languages.
During the first 9 months of 2025, preliminary information was provided for 75.4% of goods shipments imported by carriers and other parties into Turkmenistan. During this period, information on 84% of goods imported into the country and 69% of transit shipments was submitted to customs authorities in advance. 93% of the preliminary information was provided through the ASYCUDA World system, and 7% through the TIR-EPD system.
Based on the submitted preliminary information, goods imported into Turkmenistan are processed by customs in a priority manner. This helps to accelerate customs clearance, reduce the time carriers spend at the border, and deliver shipments to recipients more quickly.
Providing preliminary information about goods imported and in transit in electronic form is aimed at facilitating cross-border paperless trade through a digital system, increasing the country’s transport and transit capacity, and creating modern convenient conditions for foreign economic activity participants through the digitalization of customs procedures.
