On 20–21 August 2025, officers of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan took part in the regional online seminar “Advanced Practices and Approaches to the Implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) in Customs Operations.” The event was organized under the “Trade Facilitation in Central Asia” project of the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and brought together representatives from all Central Asian countries.
The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is actively working on establishing “smart” customs points, developing artificial intelligence technologies, and enhancing the capabilities of digital systems. In this context, there is a strong interest in learning from best practices in AI implementation within customs operations.
Participation in the two-day seminar, conducted by GIZ international expert Mr. Jonathan Koch, enabled Turkmen customs officers to deepen their knowledge on the application of AI in customs operations, gain practical guidance on self-assessment of readiness for digital transformation, exchange experiences with colleagues from Central Asian countries, enhance professional competencies, and strengthen regional cooperation in implementing innovative digital solutions.
